Meet the team

Andrea Smith B.Sc.B.Dent

Andrea Smith completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of QLD in 2001 majoring in Microbiology and her Bachelor of Dentistry from the University of Sydney in 2005.

She has been working in private practice in Brisbane & surrounding suburbs since then. Andrea enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has a particular interest in children’s dentistry.


Outside of work Andrea enjoys walking her german shepherd dogs and is happy to talk about pets at length.


Andrea joined the Gap Dental practice in 2007 and plans to continue her practice in the long term.

Dr. Mark Brumpton B.D.Sc.

Mark has worked as a Dentist in The Gap since 1976. He bought the practice from his Mentor Dr Graham Peel and a few years later along came his new Partner Dr Michael Rutherford and together The Gap Dental Practice has been well received in the local area. 

Mark has based his practice on General Dentistry focusing on families in this lovely suburb of The Gap. His philosophy is to be a kind, caring dentist and to maintain long and satisfying relationships with all of his patients. He feels that he has achieved this and looks forward to continuing this in the future.

Mark and his wife are happily raising their two younger children and the 2 older are both young adults.


Mark’s interests are Rugby Union and his favourite team is the Queensland Reds and he enjoys attending these games to support them.

Dr. Peter V Treacy B.D.Sc.

Peter graduated from the University of Qld in 1985 and began his careerin the public health system in Far Nth Qld before returning to private practice in South East Qld in 1987. He has over 25 years experience inclinical dentistry and joined Gap Dental in March 2014. His main area ofinterest is amalgam free dentistry.


Peter strives to provide the highest level of care for his patients. He welcomes all new patients including those who are anxious or nervous and his aim is to do the best he can for his patients by providing them with gentle, advanced dentistry so their teeth can cease to be a problem in their lives.


In his spare time Peter enjoys surfing, skiing, travel, reading and most outdoor pursuits, as well as continuing to improve his knowledge of dentistry by regularly attending seminars and workshops.He is a member of the Australian Dental Association.

Danielle Mein B.D.Sc. (Hons)

Danielle Mein graduated from the University of Queensland in 2005.
She has worked in a Brisbane southside private practice since graduating
after a short stint in Queensland Health, Sunshine Coast.

Danielle has skills in all areas of dentistry and strives to keep learning
as she continues in the dental profession.

Outside of dentisty, Danielle is a mother to two girls. She enjoys running
after the girls and exercising in her spare time.

Danielle looks forward to meeting and serving the dental needs of The Gap


Dr Mihaela Petrou B.D.Sc.

Mihaela grew up in sunny Bundaberg and came to Brisbane in 1985 to study dentistry at the University of Queensland. Soon after graduation in 1990, Mihaela accepted a position as Clinical Demonstrator for a couple of years at the University of Queensland’s dental school. This was a great compliment as to her clinical skills, as she had just graduated. She prides herself on her fine dexterity, gentleness and perfectionism. Mihaela was a founding member of the ADA affiliated Pogonion Dental Study Group which she still meets with for monthly meetings and lectures. She has completed many continuing educational courses, in numerous fields of dentistry both here and overseas. Her commitment to the advancement of new techniques and dental materials is ongoing.

Post graduation Mihaela worked in private practice in Sunnybank, Queensland for 7 years. Between 1997 and 2001 she worked in English private practice undertaking both British and American Dental courses. 2001 saw her return to Brisbane to both practice and enjoy Queensland family life (a teenage son Max and 2 dogs). Coming from an artistic family her passions also include singing (jazz), painting, tennis, fashion design and sewing.

Special interests include Cosmetic, Reconstructive, Paediatric (children) and Endodontic dentistry always with the aim for prevention, and minimal invasiveness. Mihaela has a special interest in being very gentle and caring. She is especially talented at easing and relaxing a nervous patient’s mind with a gift for turning children’s dental visits into a fun play time. Nothing makes her happier than to make you laugh whilst performing quality dentistry.


Dr. Chin-Hang (Rose) Kong B.Sc.D.M.D.

Rose is originally from New Zealand. After completing undergraduate studies in Science at the University of Auckland, she worked in medical publishing before deciding to move to Perth to study dentistry at the University of Western Australia. 

She worked in private practice in Perth upon graduating, before following her husband to Brisbane. When she is not in the dental surgery, you can find her at the ballet studio – she also has advanced training in classical ballet.

One of the things that Rose loves about dentistry is being able to change the way patients view that often dreaded dental visit. A gentle, careful and practical approach to treatment is her aim with every patient she sees. 


Dr. Jerry Chen

Dr. Jerry Chen was born in China and then went to Canada to pursue his university studies. After graduation from McMaster University with PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Jerry had worked in both Canada and United States. In 2014, Jerry made the decision to move to Australia for the warmer weather and set his sights in becoming a dentist.


After graduation from Griffith University, Jerry started his career working for Queensland Health at Roma Hospital. He had travelled to many towns in the Southwest Queensland area to provide quality dental services to these underserved communities. These years of working in the remote area has earned him precious experience in handling dental emergency and in treating patients with compromised medical history.


In early 2021, Jerry returned to Brisbane to get closer to family. Jerry has a keen interest in oral surgery, restorative works and gum disease treatment. Jerry has a patient and gentle personality and believes in providing the best treatment and care for his patients. When he is not working, Jerry likes to spend time with family and enjoys basketball, travelling and movies.

Dr. Stephen Tang B.D.S. (Adelaide)

Stephen grew up in Perth and has been practising dentistry for almost 20 years. After graduation with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2000 from the University of Adelaide, he worked in private practices in Perth and the Gold Coast and gained extensive experience in all aspects of general dentistry. He strives to provide quality health care to all of his patients by keeping up to date with continuing education.

Outside of dentistry, Stephen is an avid reader of classical literature.
