Teeth whitening can be an excellent and effective way of improving the colour of your teeth without having to remove any of the tooth surface. Take-home kits for teeth whitening are the most popular and commonly used method for teeth whitening. They are custom made for each patient to fit their own mouths perfectly.
This method involves taking the impression of your teeth and making a custom-fitted tray. When using it, the tray is filled with whitening gel provided and placed in the mouth for a specific period of time. This can be for one hour or for overnight depending on the type of whitening gel used.
What causes tooth discolouration?
The most common causes of tooth discolouration include, but are not limited to
Consumption of drinks like tea, coffee, red wine
Who can have their teeth whitened?
Almost anyone can have their teeth whitened. It may not be as effective for some as it is for others, depending on the condition of the teeth, and whether they have fillings or crowns on them already. It is best to have a dental health assessment prior to considering whitening with a dentist to evaluate options for each individual.
How long does teeth whitening last?
Teeth whitening is a permanent change to the tooth, but after some time ( usually years), they may fade slightly or not be quite “as bright”. It is then possible to do some more teeth whitening (usually using the custom trays that have already been provided) by purchasing additional whitening gel from your dentist.
